James Alterbaum has over 30 years experience in corporate, securities, commercial and employment law. With a background in accounting and finance, Mr. Alterbaum takes a business and entrepreneurial approach to the law, serving public, private, and corporate clients in diversified fields. Mr. Alterbaum has particular expertise in serving closely-held and family multi-generational firms facing issues from a business and corporate governance perspective, including the structuring of: M&A transactions, refinancing, public and private offerings and succession plans. He places heavy emphasis on the strategic decision-making surrounding these transactions and takes leadership in early-stage negotiations. Working with many professionals in other disciplines, such as investment bankers, accountants, valuation and wealth management experts, Mr. Alterbaum provides a value-added approach that cuts across a variety of practice areas.
A dynamic speaker, who lectures regularly for the National Business Institute, and prolific author, whose most recent contribution appears on Aspatore’s Corporate Law Best Practices, Mr. Alterbaum has written numerous trade articles. He has appeared on several TV and radio programs such as CNBC's Money Talk, Today's Business, Sky Radio and WLIE, and has been interviewed by a variety of publications, including The New York Times, Crain’s New York Business, Long Island Business News, and Entrepreneur magazine. Mr. Alterbaum currently serves on the Portfolio Advisory Board of the Eugene M. Lang Center for Entrepreneurship at Columbia University's School of Business and lectures regularly to Columbia's MBAs. He is a recipient of the University's "Mentor of the Year" award and serves on the Long Island Board of The Institute of Management Accountants. Mr. Alterbaum is a senior partner in the Corporate, Securities and M & A practice.
